About the PAMP Suisse Gold Bars

PAMP Suisse is shorthand for Produits Artistiques Métaux Précieux, a refinery founded in Castel San Pietro, Ticino, in 1977. It sits inside the MKS PAMP Group and holds Good Delivery accreditation from the LBMA, which means its large-format bars are accepted in the wholesale London market without re-assay. For a retail buyer, that institutional pedigree is the entire point. You are paying a small premium over generic cast gold to get a bar that any major dealer will buy back without friction.

The signature retail product is the Lady Fortuna bar. Lady Fortuna, the Roman goddess of fortune, was the first decorative motif ever applied to a minted gold bar, and PAMP introduced her in 1979. The design has been refreshed several times since, but the silhouette is instantly recognizable. If you have ever seen a gold bar in a movie prop case, there is a decent chance it was a PAMP.

Every modern retail PAMP bar ships sealed in a CertiPAMP assay card. The card carries a matching serial number, the weight, the .9999 fineness mark, and the assayer's signature. Newer bars also include a VERISCAN micro-engraved security feature that a dealer can verify with a proprietary scanner. You should not break the seal. A bar out of its card sells for less, full stop, because the buyer has to re-verify it.

Fineness is .9999, what the trade calls four-nines fine. That is the same purity as a Canadian Maple Leaf or a Perth Mint bar, and a notch above the .995 minimum that LBMA Good Delivery requires. Purity is not really the differentiator at this level. Brand recognition and packaging integrity are.

The PAMP retail line covers the full ladder of gram and ounce sizes, from 1 gram up through 100 gram and 1 kilo. The sweet spot for most US retail buyers is the 1 oz bar, which trades close to coin-equivalent premiums and has the deepest dealer coverage on this site. Smaller fractional bars carry meaningfully higher premiums per gram, the same pattern you see in fractional coins.

One practical note. PAMP bars are produced by both minting and casting depending on size. The small decorative bars you see most often, including the Lady Fortuna 1 oz, are minted, meaning they are struck from a blank with a die. Larger bars above 100 grams are typically cast. Both are .9999 fine and both are LBMA-recognized; the visual finish is the only real difference.
