About the Perth Mint Gold Bars
Perth Mint Gold Bars are produced by The Perth Mint, the government-owned refinery and mint based in Perth, Western Australia. The mint opened in 1899 as the third and last branch of Britain's Royal Mint in Australia, struck sovereigns for the British Empire, and has been refining and producing bullion ever since. It is now wholly owned by the Government of Western Australia, which also guarantees the weight and purity of every bar.
The most common Perth bar in the US bullion market is the cast or minted 1 oz gold bar at .9999 fineness. You will also see fractional bars in 1 g, 5 g, 10 g, 20 g, 50 g, and 100 g sizes, plus larger 10 oz and kilo formats. Bars typically ship in a tamper-evident assay card showing the weight, purity, serial number, and the assayer's signature.
Perth has a small distinguishing quirk worth knowing. Many of its minted bars carry a swan motif, a nod to Western Australia's black swan emblem, while cast bars carry a simpler stamped design. Both are LBMA Good Delivery accredited at the bar level the mint produces for the wholesale market, and both are accepted by every major US bullion dealer we track.
For a buyer, the practical question is almost never whether Perth gold is real. It is whether the premium over spot is competitive against other sovereign-mint bars from PAMP Suisse, Royal Canadian Mint, or Valcambi. Perth bars tend to land in the same general band as those peers, sometimes a touch lower on the 1 oz size depending on inventory.
Liquidity on the resale side is strong. Any dealer that buys back gold will buy back a sealed Perth bar, and most will pay a similar bid to what they pay for PAMP or RCM. If the assay card is broken or the bar is loose, expect a small bid haircut while the dealer reverifies it.
If you are stacking gold for long-term holding rather than collecting, a Perth 1 oz bar is one of the more boring, safer choices on the menu. Sovereign-backed, widely recognized, easy to sell, and usually priced within a few dollars of the cheapest comparable bar on any given day.
